NYE Countdown (MST) #4 Programs and Events: Cal Poly Dance Marathon

As we count down to 2018 in the Mountain time zone, here are our top 10 CMNH Programs & Events:

FOUR!

In 2017, Cal Poly Dance Marathon (CPDM) earned bragging rights for becoming the highest fundraising first-year Dance Marathon program in the nation when it held its inaugural event on March 10.

Students danced for 12 hours (overnight and into the next morning), heard from patients and families who have been helped by Cottage Children’s Medical Center (CCMC), watched performances, played games, and engaged in activities and themes, including FTK (For The Kids) team outfits, Line Dancing, Club DM, Power Hour, Time’s Almost Up and Mustang Pride. One Cal Poly senior took the stage and shared her personal story of how CCMC doctors saved her life.

It’s a huge undertaking and Cottage is grateful to everyone who participated, including sponsors, donors and the 435 dancers that came through the door.

After gathering donor support from friends and family, holding a special “$5K in a Day” pre-event push, and in-event challenges like raising $500 in less than 500 seconds, Cal Poly Dance Marathon (CPDM) ended up with an incredible total of just over—drumroll, please—$36,245!

“It’s so, so great to see how many people are in this room that I’ve never seen before and that are so excited for the kids,” said CPDM Executive Director Haley Stegall, on stage in front of the room full of dancers. “I really, really wanted this to bring every edge of campus together. It wasn’t about one area, it wasn’t about one group. It was about all of Cal Poly coming together to fundraise for our community and fundraise for the generation of tomorrow.”
