Thomas Fire: Estimated Containment January 7

Previously estimated to be contained by December 24, we’re now looking at January 7, 2018, as the anticipated containment date.

Firefighters are currently focusing the majority of their resources on securing the western side of the fire (above Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria). They will remain engaged in defending buildings and establish a fire line wherever possible, working to tie into the Tea and Jesusita fire footprints. High winds are expected this evening and into Saturday morning. We hope firefighters are able to construct a defensive posture that will provide added protection to the communities we all love and collectively call Santa Barbara … our home.

  • 252,500 acres
  • 35% contained
  • 970 structures destroyed
  • 8,369 fire personnel
  • Hwy 154 closed in both directions from 5:00–9:00 a.m. daily, so fire equipment will have free access from the fire camp at Lake Cachuma
